Starfish Swim School was founded in Midrand in 1999 by Cathy Cronje. Having been involved in competitive swimming since she was a little girl and with experience of over 23 years of teaching behind her, Cathy has developed her own style of teaching swimming over the years.
Starfishes’ specialty is stroke development, stroke correction, and junior squad but we are also experienced in teaching all ages.
Cathy is the founder and owner and has been teaching swimming for over 23 years and has been involved in competitive swimming all her life.
She spends part of the year teaching at Starfish and the rest
co-running a marine conservation and swimming programme in Mozambique.
Sandra is the operations and admin manager at Starfish. She holds an Honours Degree in Educational Managements and has been in the field of Sport and Education going on 20 years.
Clem originates form East London and exudes confidence, care and compassion in the way that she teaches. Her attention to detail is clear and her quality of instruction is extremely high.
Delise was previously a lifeguard and loves being in water. Her nurturing nature is evident with all ages and she is one of the only qualified toddler swim teachers in Midrand.
Nolia is our child minder and domestic helper. She has a wonderful way with children and is warmly known to all as “Ma Nolia”
Madiya takes care of the premises and has been in the neighbourhood for over 20 years!
Clement is our security guard and keeps a keen eye on the cars while you or your children enjoy lessons.
Starfish Swim School is situated in Vorna Valley, Midrand.
The pool is 12m x 6m in size and fully enclosed by a brick building. There is a double step along the entire length of the pool so that the little ones are able to sit and stand along the side of the pool making them feel comfortable in the knowledge that they have a solid footing below them. The depth of the pool is 1m in the shallow end to 1.3m deep in the deep end.
We believe that water temperature is a very important factor when teaching children to swim. The pool temperature is maintained between 30 and 32 degrees in summer and in winter we up the temperature to 33 degrees.
